Principle

To establish the importance of solar energy in the form of non renewable energy. The solar energy could be used to its maximum through solar panels.

Theory

The MBA course in BE electrical can help you the optimum to prepare the assignments on this topic however in this assignment we will present the importance of solar panels that are becoming popular day by day. Nowadays, as the sources of non renewable energy decreasing the use of renewable resources for producing electricity is increasing. Solar panels as the source of renewable energy absorb the energy from the sun and are stored in the battery. Solar panels placed towards the direction of sun so it could continuously rotate and it can utilize the energy of sun optimum. In this assignment we will discuss about the making and function of solar panel. The principle of sun tracking solar panel consists of two LDRs, solar panel, stepper motor and ATMEGA8 micro controller. In making sun tracking solar panels two light dependent resistors are arranged on the edges of the solar panel which produce low resistance when light falls on them. The stepper connected to the panel rotates the panel at certain angle in the direction of sun and also the panel is arranged in such a way that the light on two LDRs could be compared and panel could be rotated towards LDR which have high intensity. When the intensity of the light falling on the right LDR is more, then panel will slowly move towards the left and if the intensity on the left LDR is more, then the panel will slowly moves towards the left. At noon, the panel will be constant and there will be no rotation. Now, it is also important to discuss the making of automated sun tracking solar panel circuit design which consists of ATmega8 micro controller, solar panel, light dependent resistors and motor driver IC.ATmega8 is a micro controller of AVR family based on advanced RISC architecture. Solar panel consists of photovoltaic cells arranged in an order is connected to a stepper. Solar cell which is made of silicon absorbed some amount of energy when a light ray from the sun is incident on the solar cell. This energy is enough for the electrons to jump from one orbit to other and the cells having one or more electric field can direct the electrons which are able to create current and by placing metal contact energy can be obtained from these cells. Stepper motor in which driver IC is used rotates the panel in a stepwise direction and amplifies the input voltage and protects the microcontroller from back EMF. One can store the energy generated by the solar cells by connecting a battery to the solar panel whenever required. The driver IC used in stepper motor belongs to L293D and has H Bridge internally made up of transistors. This IC has 16 pins in which output pins are connected to the stepper motor pins and input pins are connected to the controller pins in the circuit diagram. LDRS or light dependent resistors used in solar panels have maximum resistance in dark and their resistance values depend on intensity of the light and if the intensity of the light falling on the LDR increases, resistance value decrease.

However, there are some limitations also of using sun tracking solar panel circuit as it may create problems in rainy season and also solar panels are expensive. The sun tracking solar panel circuit is heavy and occupies more space and required to change time to time and also these are slightly more expensive due to more complex technology and moving parts necessary for their operation. The main motive behind the sun tracking solar panel circuit is to maximize the output from the solar panels by aligning the solar array in such a way that the angle of incidence could remain minimum. The solar trackers can provide an efficiency increase of around 40-45% .
